Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter of the Snowy Scheme, but let’s start at the beginning.
By harnessing the power of water, the Snowy Scheme’s hydro power stations generate around a third of the renewable energy in the National Electricity Market.
The Snowy Scheme is a feat of global engineering that connects:
9 power stations
145km of tunnels and pipelines
80km of aqueducts
Built between 1949 and 1974 it remains the biggest engineering project ever undertaken in Australia.
Snowy 2.0 connects two existing dams in the Snowy Scheme with 27km of waterway tunnels. In the middle is an underground pumped-hydro power station that generates power when water passes through it.
Meet my colleague Jane, she’s an energy trader and she’ll show you how.
Now come with me and I’ll explain how Snowy 2.0 helps deliver Australia a future with plenty of reliable, affordable, clean energy.Let's Go
