I’m Jim, I’m an engineer and I represent one of the hundreds of people working on Snowy 2.0.

A vision realised

Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter of the Snowy Scheme.

The Snowy Scheme is a series of interconnected dams and power stations located in Australia’s Southern Alps.
By harnessing the power of water, the Snowy Scheme’s hydro power stations generate around a third of the renewable energy in the National Electricity Market.
Open the gate
1Rain and melting snow fills the dams.
The Snowy Scheme is a feat of global engineering that connects:

9 power stations
16 dams
145km of tunnels and pipelines
80km of aqueducts

Built between 1949 and 1974 it remains the biggest engineering project ever undertaken in Australia.

Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter

Snowy 2.0 connects two existing dams in the Snowy Scheme with 27km of waterway tunnels. In the middle is an underground pumped-hydro power station that generates power when water passes through it.

Ready to learn how this fits into the bigger electricity grid?

Meet my colleague Jane, she’s an energy trader and she’ll show you how.

Thanks Jim

Now come with me and I’ll explain how Snowy 2.0 helps deliver Australia a future with plenty of reliable, affordable, clean energy.
